Timeless stills

Posted by 1troy3 on December 18, 2007

The Christopher Dresser exhibition which And was heavily involved in has apparently moved to Ghent in Belgium. You may remember that And produced a film to accompany the exhibition which ran at Hereford Museum in the summer as well as a preface to a book on the great man.

Here is a still from And’s production starring our very own Nige, superbly cast as Victorian man, the First Earl of Breinton.

Of course, it’s also a decent excuse to dig up some further stills from And’s film archives of a younger Nige in his jousting days.

And the movie mogul himself on location, with his good lady wife Caroline in support.

I love these nostalgic pix so over the holiday period I will be showing a few more, including a none-too-flattering snap of me which has become known as the startled panda pic (circa 1982 I think Matt said).

PS: Hope you enjoy this quote I found from the weekend:

Richard Keys: “Well, Harry, do you think that you’ll have to finish above Manchester United to win the league?
Harry Redknapp: “You have to finish above everyone to win the league, Richard.”

‘Ere, I want a word with you

Posted by 1troy3 on December 5, 2007

OK, need your help here with a few suggestions. I’m struggling with a pasage in my book where there’s a discussion about favourite words, what they mean and how they change. I’ll weave in a few of your favourites to the chapter.

My current chart-topper is wobble – it’s a delightful word, ideally suited to the job – closely followed by florin and falafel. Dwr, the Welsh word for water, is another goodun.

Any thoughts? (Don’t necessarily have to be English – Irish, Danish or Antipodean would equally suffice). Suffice! Another corker.
