Seasonal good wishes

Posted by 1troy3 on December 23, 2008

Thanks to all who have called by and left a comment this last year – I always enjoy reading the rumbustuous dialogue which invariably brings a smile.

Years ago I read Andrei Gromyko’s autobiogrpahy. He was the long-serving Soviet foreign minister known to the Americans as Mr Niet. A lot of the book came back to me when I was in Moscow last week but one passage in particular seemed relevant as I was trying to survive the metro journey.

He quotes a Russian proverb (of which thre are many): “If you are a mushroom then into the basket you go.” I’m not entirely certain what it means but it perfectly fitted the mood.

I’m afraid there are no pictures because my trusty Canon compact has finally given up. I’ve asked Santa for a replacement so if Mr Madoff hasn’t had his sack as well then I look forward to publishing some more snaps in the new year.

I shall be back in the Shire shortly (trying saying that after a few sherries) and planning to get out for a walk on Boxing Day if anyone is interested in a few festive diversions.

In the meantime I wish you all, dear readers, companionship, peace and prosperity.

Nervous times

Posted by 1troy3 on December 8, 2008

Hey, three points away from home. Let’s hope this is the start of a United revival and an end to sweaty plams at 4.45 on a Saturday.

If my noyves weren’t shattered already, I have to go to Moscow at the weekend – on Aeroflop. Chuffing marvellous. I’d appreciate it if you would all chuck some salt around, do some inspirational chanting and perhaps have a word with Mr Big on my behalf.

Apologies for the lack of posts and engaging content but it’s been a tad chaotic at Troy Towers. If I get back in one piece from Russia I have some more time at Christmas when I hope to see everyone for a laugh round an open fire.
